A THANK YOU to our Guides Karma and Galey

From the snowy tops of the mountains to the lowest valley, we wandered through Bhutan. We wandered with muddy boots and sunglasses, red faces and giant tubs of gum. We jumped high together with anticipation, and at the end we collapsed with exhaustion.   We meditated in peaceful temples with quiet minds. We sang loudly on the bus with windows rolled down and hair flying. Mango, watermelon and fruit flavoured gum kept us moving on our hikes. Our new found appreciation of nature ensured we picked up the wrappers and left nature as we found it. Hot tea and warm meals kept us smiling almost as much as Karma and Galey. You took our loudness for enthusiasm and exhaustion for a day well done.

On behalf of SMLS and RSGC we would like to thank you for giving us the trip of a lifetime. You showed us the beautiful culture of Bhutan and allowed us to experience it on a whole new level.  You showed an endless effort to not only ensure we had a bed to sleep in, but hot tea always awaiting for us upon arrival. You taught us that Bhutan is not just a country. It’s a country full of love, passion and happiness.

We come from a very materialistic based country. I think being on such an inspiring trip has allowed us to understand that it’s not about the amount of money you have, or how many cars you can buy. What it comes down to is if you are happy. Life is about valuing the little things in life. These are the things we often look over in Canada. It’s about going to bed each night happy and satisfied with each day. It’s about waking up to see what the next day has in store.  Life is about knowing yourself and giving back to those who support and love you.

The lessons we have learned in Bhutan are lessons we will take with us for the rest of our lives. This trip shaped each and every one of us into becoming who we want to be, and we all thank you for this incredible opportunity.
