In early 2019, we floated the idea out through our network that ALIVE was going to offer a women’s expedition as part of our 20th Anniversary year. Eighteen women signed up. We were due to arrive in Bhutan at the end of March 2020. We never imagined it would be three whole years later before this group would get there. It almost seems surreal that it’s happening!

Over the summer of 2022, Bhutan increased their sustainable development fee by more than 300%. It has become one of the most exclusive places in the world to visit. I know I speak for the group when I say that everyone is feeling very grateful, we had this trip in motion! It’s difficult to complain about a country that is working to prevent the negative consequences of tourism, who is so deeply committed to preserving their pristine environment and is also working hard to uphold its carbon-negative status for generations to come.

While travel has changed drastically over the last few years, Bhutan is the perfect place to ease back out there into an altered world. The clean air, the magnificent mountain views, the Buddhist culture, and the inspiring people will make this incredible journey well worth the wait.
